A lot of networkers shy way from using “scripts” because they feel robotic or manipulative in some way if they do. But the reality is, there’s nothing wrong in using a standard script as a guide for opening up conversations . In fact, it is highly advisable to use network marketing scripts in your recruiting and selling efforts.
Here’s why:
MLM Scripts Save You Time
When you have a clear idea of what to say in order to open up a conversation with a prospect, you’ll waste no time going around circles.
Many MLM distributors fall in the rut of engaging in extended small talk, the weather, Netflix, before going straight into the qualifying sequence and pitch.
By the time they communicate their real intentions, the prospect realizes that he’s been sucked in to the conversation and quickly withdraws. “Not interested. Hey I gotta go, but thanks”.
Time could have been saved if the networker used a short, simple script to easily determine if the prospect is interested or not. The prospect appreciates this as well, because there is no preliminary “pep talk” and fake friendly chat beforehand.
A Network Marketing Script Helps Weed Out Bad Prospects
In the world of selling, be it online or offline, this is called “qualifying”. You are not out to recruit everyone and their mother. Instead, you want to find the right people to join you in terms of interests, business outlook, and level of desire towards building a business.
This doesn’t mean that you should reject prospects that do not fit your criteria of an “ideal distributor”. The idea is to use a network marketing script to quickly uncover where the prospect currently stands in terms of joining an MLM business, and what preconceived notions he or she has about the industry.
Network Marketing Scripts Help You Increase Sales and Sponsoring Rates
As you gain more familiarity of your MLM scripts, your confidence in using them will grow. You’ll be able to tailor-make them to your particular conversation or situation. As you practice your scripts, you’ll know the exact points in the conversation that spark the highest amount of curiosity and desire with your prospects.
These can increase your sales and sponsoring rates because you will no longer need to scramble for words when it comes to sharing the opportunity to others.
That being said, here are some network marketing scripts and opener questions you can use to strike up conversations with prospects (online or offline) and increase the number of people who get to hear your MLM business proposition:
Effective Networking Marketing Scripts and Questions
Use these scripts over and over until you master them and watch your earnings grow:
The Elevator Speech
The Elevator Speech is your standard answer to anyone who asks you “What do you do?” or “What Business are you in? “
The idea behind the elevator speech is to give well detailed info about who you are what you do in less than 30 seconds. You should be able to say the whole thing to anyone you’re riding the elevator with, literally (people who might be in a hurry).
Here’s a good elevator speech format:
I’m in the [name of industry]. I distribute/provide/cater [name of main products] to [intended market], and if they are interested in distributing those products or services, I also help them get started as [reseller, distributor, affiliate, etc].
So here’s a sample conversation that uses this format:
——-
Prospect: Hey, what business are you in?
Networker. Oh, I’m in the health and wellness industry. I provide nutritional supplements and health solutions to fitness enthusiasts. If they’re interested in becoming dealers of those products, I also help them get started as a distributor.
The reason this works is that you are not directly SELLING to the person you are giving the elevator speech to. You are simply telling them who you are and what you do. So they feel in control because they’re not being sold to.
—————
After giving your elevator speech, it is common for prospects to follow with questions like these:
“That’s cool. What kind of products are you promoting?”
Or if they are interested about the opportunity, they say something along these lines:
“Sounds good. What company are you connected to?”
And you’re in.
You can be the initiator of an elevator speech by asking the first question “Hey, I see that we’re going to the same office building. What company do you work in?”
If you’re friendly and non-invasive, they will usually tell you. And then ask you in return: “How about you?”
And then insert your elevator speech.
The Script For Existing Network Marketers
Fellow network marketers are among the best people to recruit to your business. They are already self-motivated. They are already sold with the idea of network marketing as a business model.
The only problem is this: they are already in an opportunity!
Here’s a good script to use for existing networkers:
Networker: Hey, are you in [name of company].
Prospect: Yes.
Networker: Cool, how’s it going so far? Are you getting lots of [sales/signups/leads]?
Prospect. Not really. I just got started last month.
Networker: Check out my [website/calling card/video/free giveaway]. This [website/calling card/video/free giveaway] is [what you do with it]. People [see/listen to/watch] and find good info and they are more likely to [inquire about my business]. Nice, right?
Prospect: Yes cool!
Networker: I can show you how to get one just like this. Can you [watch this video first/sit with me for 5 minutes so I can explain/read this website in full].
So the idea here is to show someone who’s not getting results in their biz, and show them a marketing tool you use effectively in YOUR business that helps you get results.
Here’s an example of this, used on FB chat with specifics:
———
Networker: Hey, are you in ABC Essentials Pro?
Prospect: Yes
Networker: Cool, how’s it going so far? Are you getting lots of sales?
Prospect: Not really, still learning the ropes.
Networker: Check out my site: [your website here]. This site is updated daily with the latest blogs to pull Google and Facebook traffic. Visitors read the blogs and find value and they are more likely to click on your affiliates links and banners. I get all my leads and sales this way. Nice, right?
Prospect: That’s pretty cool
Networker. Here, check out this video on how you can have a website just like mine: [link to the video]
——————–
** See how smooth the above script is? It works because you are not directly peddling your opportunity. You are sharing a tool that works for you in getting leads and signups, and to get that tool, they need to sign up to your opportunity. Use this and tailor to your business.
The Job Dissatisfaction Script
This one is best used for people you know who are sick and tired of their job, and are looking for alternative sources of income.
By using this script, you can get to the prospect’s main pain points, and go straight into presenting a solution that could be the answer to his problem.
Use this in the middle of a conversation with someone who you already have a rapport with (maybe a neighbor, friend, someone who works nearby, etc)
Here is the script:
——
Networker: By the way, what do you like most about your present job?
Prospect: My colleagues are nice. But aside from that, I don’t like my job very much.
Networker: Really, why? [just get them to elaborate more on their job dissatisfaction]
Prospect: It’s too stressful, etc etc low pay, bad boss, slow promotion [let the person elaborate on the reasons for his job dissatisfaction]
Networker: You know what, I’ve got something that you might want to look at. This might not be for you, and it’s not a job. But it can become a good source of income on the side for you just in case you go looking for other options. Ever heard of Pink Organics?
Prospect. Wow, never heard of it. Tell me more.

Conclusion About MLM Scripts
The bottomline is, MLM scripts do work. They won’t work on everyone, but they will work on a percentage of people you talk to. Always remember that success in network marketing is a numbers game.
While it is next to impossible to recruit every person you talk to, you can up your sponsoring rates by using the scripts I shared with you above. Study them, tailor them to your situation, use your own wording or insert your own unique style. The important thing is that you take massive action each day and get the word out about your business.
